Roslyn’s spring travel baseball teams hold tryouts in the fall at Roslyn Park. Players must attend at least one tryout to be eligible to make the team, and parents/guardians will need to sign a participation waiver. A player’s age-bracket is determined by his age on May 1.

About the Baseball Program

TEE BALL (Boys and Girls, 4-6 years of age)
The Tee ball league objective is to introduce children to the sport of baseball. Basic fundamental skills such as throwing, catching, base running, and hitting from a “Tee” are taught through practice and non-competitive games. Coaches are encouraged to rotate players through each position on the field. Games are highlighted by the last batter in the inning “hitting a homerun” as the defense attempts to tag the runner out. The season begins in March with weekly indoor practices. Outdoor practices and games begin in April. The season concludes in late-May.

COACH PITCH (Boys and Girls, 6-7 years of age)
The Coach Pitch Program is an extension of the Tee ball Program. Instead of hitting from a tee, the coaches pitch to the batter. The same basic fundamental skills are emphasized as in the Tee ball program, with the additional concepts of swing strikes, force out, tag plays, and 3 outs constituting 1/2 an inning. This program is for 7-year-old players and more skilled 6-year-olds. Girls ages 6-8 have the option of playing coach pitch softball. Games are non-competitive. The season begins in March with weekly indoor practices. Outdoor practices and games begin in April. The season concludes in late-May.

MACHINE PITCH (Boys and Girls, 8-9 years of age)
The objective of the Intramural Machine Pitch Baseball Program is to further develop basic skills of the players. Umpiring, balls and strikes, and team positional play are introduced. The regular season consists of practices, non-competitive games, and the opportunity to use the batting cages of Roslyn Park. Over the last few years, we have created a small league at this level with the Ardsley and Abington-Roychester organizations. This has been made up of about 10-12 teams in total that travel to each others’ fields and play non-competitive games. It has been a huge success, and we hope to keep it going. The season begins in March with weekly indoor practices. Outdoor practices and games begin in April. The games are usually Saturday morning and one night during the week. Coaches will organize practices during the week. The season concludes in late-May. More experienced 8-year-old players may be asked to participate in tournament play in June or July.

TRAVEL PROGRAM (Boys, 9-16 years of age)
The Travel Baseball Program is designed for those players who have exhibited the skills and desire to play at a higher competitive level. Travel Programs begin at nine years of age, and our teams compete in the Suburban Travel Baseball League. Open tryouts are held for the travel programs every Fall or Spring with the most qualified 12 to 15 players making the travel roster. Players in this program will be required to travel to game sites outside the immediate Roslyn area. The Roslyn Boys & Girls Club will sponsor a team based on the number of registrations and the ability to field a competitive team within an age group.

teeINTRAMURAL BASEBALL (Boys, 9-12 years of age)
The Intramural Baseball program is designed for those players who do not participate in the travel program. The objective of the Intramural Baseball Program is to further refine skill levels developed in the prior level leagues. This level remains instructional but is competitive. Post-season playoffs are held with all teams participating.

PREP JUNIOR AMERICAN LEGION (Boys, 13 years of age)
The most competitive level of play offered by the baseball program. The eighteen most deserving players from our franchised territory will be selected to participate in the Prep Junior American Legion program.

JUNIOR AMERICAN LEGION (Boys, 13-16 years of age)
The most competitive level of play offered by the baseball program. The eighteen most deserving players from our franchised territory will be selected to participate in the Junior American Legion program.

SENIOR AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL (Boys, 16-19 years of age)
This is an opportunity for the best local talent to play in the top amateur league in the area. Tryouts are advertised and held in the winter and spring. The eighteen most deserving players from our franchised territory will be selected to participate in the Senior American Legion program.

TOURNAMENT PLAY
Post-season tournament play is an extension of the travel program. Tournaments typically take placed in the July-August frame. Occasionally, teams will participate in pre-season tournaments. The cost of tournament play is an additional expense borne by the players. All players who are on the regular season roster of a travel program team are eligible, but not required, to participate in tournament play. Coaches, with the prior approval of the Baseball Commissioners and Travel Team Directors, may add additional players to the tournament roster as long as this does not violate tournament rules. Coaches may not, at their own discretion, remove from a tournament rostered players who were members of the regular season roster. Players always have the option of relinquishing their tournament roster spot.
