Baseball
Commissioner: Ed Micciolo TEE BALL
(Boys and Girls, 5 & 6 years of age)
The Tee ball league objective is to introduce children to the sport of
baseball. Basic fundamental skills such as throwing, catching, base
running and hitting from a "Tee" are taught through practice and
non competitive games. Coaches are encouraged to rotate players
through each position on the field. Games are highlighted by the
last batter in the inning "hitting a homerun" as the defense
attempts to tag the runner out. The season begins in March with one
indoor practice. Outdoor practices and games begin in April.
The season concludes in mid June.
COACH
PITCH
(Boys and Girls, 6 and 7 years of age)
The Coach Pitch Program is an extension of the Tee ball Program. Instead
of hitting from a tee, the coaches pitch to the batter. The same basic
fundamental skills are emphasized as in the Tee ball program, with the
additional concepts of swing strikes, force out, tag plays and 3 outs
constituting 1/2 an inning. This program is for 7 year old players and the
more skilled 6 year olds. Seven year old girls have the option of playing
coach pitch softball. Games are non competitive. The season begins
in March with one indoor practice. Outdoor practices and games begin in
April. The season concludes in mid June.
INTRAMURAL
BASEBALL
(Boys, ages 8 and 9 years of age)
The objective of the Intramural Baseball Program is to further develop basic
skills of the players. Umpiring, balls and strikes, pitching and team
positional play are introduced. The regular season consists of practices,
non competitive games, and the opportunity to use the batting cages of Roslyn
Park. The season concludes with a double elimination playoff tournament
and All Star game. All players participate in the All Star Game. The
season begins in March with weekly indoor practices. Outdoor practices and
games begin in April. The season concludes in mid to late June. More
experienced eight year old players may be asked to participate in tournament
play in July.
TRAVEL
PROGRAM
(Boys, ages 9 through 16 years)
The travel baseball program is designed for those players who have exhibited the
skills and desire to play at a higher competitive level. Roslyn Baseball
teams participate in the Devlin Legion and the MONTCO League. Travel
Programs begin at nine years of age. Nine year old players who do not
participate in the travel program play in the Intramural Program. Open
tryouts are held for the travel programs every Spring with the most qualified 12
to 15 players making the travel roster. Players in this program will be
required to travel to game sites outside the immediate Roslyn area. The
Roslyn Boys and Girls Club will sponsor a team based on the number of
registrations and the ability to field a competitive team within an age group.
JUNIOR AMERICAN
LEGION
(Boys ages 13 to 15 years)
The most competitive level of play offered by the baseball program. The
eighteen most deserving players from our franchised territory will be selected
to participate in the Junior American Legion program.
INTERCOMMUNITY
BASEBALL
(Boys, ages 10 to 15 years)
The Intercommunity Baseball program is designed for those players who do not
participate in the travel program. The objective of the Intercommunity
Baseball Program is to further refine skill levels developed in the prior level
leagues. This level remains instructional but is competitive. No
standings are kept. Post season playoffs are held with all teams
participating.
AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL
(Boys ages 16 to 19 years )
This is an opportunity for the best local talent to play in the top amateur
league in the area. The team is sponsored by Post #248 in association with
the Roslyn Boys and Girls Club.
TOURNAMENT PLAY
Post season tournament play is an extension of the travel program.
Tournaments typically take placed in the July-August frame. Occasionally,
teams will participate in pre season tournaments. The cost of tournament
play is an additional expense borne by the players. All players who are on
the regular season roster of a travel program team, are eligible, but not required,
to participate in tournament play. Coaches, with the prior approval of the
Baseball Commissioner and Travel Team Directors, may add an additional three
players to the tournament roster as long as it does not violate tournament
rules. Coaches may not, at their own discretion, remove players from a
tournament roster who were members of the regular season roster. Players,
always have the option of relinquishing their tournament roster spot.
