Q: What are the age requirements?
A: Your child must be 5-years old before July 31 of the current season to qualify for U6 soccer. There are no exceptions. Those children who are 6 and 7 before July 31 will play in the U8 division and those who are 8 and 9 by July 31 will play in the U10 division.
Q: What if I want my child to play up in an older division?
A: While sometimes a friend is playing in another division, no player can play up unless it is approved by the soccer commissioner. If a child warrants playing up, he/she will be evaluated by a member of the EPYSA state coaching staff.
Q: How do I register?
A: You can register at the Roslyn Boys & Girls Club clubhouse on designated days, or you can register by mail by following directions on the clubs Web site. All registration forms must be accompanied by the appropriate payment or the form can not be processed.
Q: What is the cost?
A: Early registration is always the last day of the current season. Fee is $45 for signing up early. After that, regular registration is in March/April and fees are $45 for U6 players only and $65 for U8/U10 players. Late registration fees for all age divisions of $85 go into effect on June 1.
Q: Are there discounts for additional family members?
A: Unfortunately, no.
Q: When does the season begin?
A: Our soccer season usually begins two to three weeks after Labor Day. The first game of the season is 10 weeks before the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
Q: Why dont practices start earlier?
A: Its not necessary.
Q: When will my coach call me?
A: You will get a call from your coach after Labor Day.
Q: What happens to games when it rains?
A: If games are cancelled due to rain we will get that information out to our coaches as soon as possible and we will make every effort to post it on the front page of our Web site (based on the availability of the webmaster). However, in the event that it rains just prior to the start of a game you might be chased from the field after showing up. Also, understand that sometimes fields are unplayable even though it stopped raining hours before the start of a game.
Q: What happens to practices when it rains?
A: The decision to cancel a practice is up to the coach. Although, if the fields are unplayable, coaches will be notified that they will need to cancel their practice. If fields are unplayable, we will make every effort to post a message on our Web site.
Q: How can I get involved?
A: Roslyn Boys & Girls Club is always looking for volunteers. If you want to help with soccer coach, assistant coach, snack bar, field maintenance please contact the soccer commissioner. If you want to get involved with baseball, softball, teen dances, building maintenance, etc. please contact the appropriate member as listed on the clubs Web site. If you are unsure, contact the club president and he/she can put you in contact with the right person.
Q: What if my child quits or we move, can I get a refund?
A: If you move prior to the start of the season you can get a refund. If your child no longer wants to play you can get a refund up to the 2nd week of the season only if you return the jersey/uniform.
Q: What equipment will my child need?
A: U6/U8 players need a #3 soccer ball, shin guards and a water bottle with the appropriate beverage (water and sports drinks only). Cleats are not required but highly recommended. Players should wear appropriate athletic wear.

Q: What if my child wants to play on the same team as a friend?
A: As long as they are in the same age division every effort will be made to accommodate such requests. Please understand that team sizes are limited and at the younger age groups it is co-ed so all-boy or all-girls teams will not be created. If a son or daughter wants to be on the same team as a friend, please note that on the registration form.
Q: If I want to coach, with whom do I speak?
A: The soccer commissioner.
Q: If I coach will I get my own child?
A: Yes.
Q: How are teams selected, is there a draft?
A: There is not a draft. Teams are put together by the soccer commissioner who, at the time of team creation, will give consideration to players wanting to play with friends. Teams are balanced as best as possible with boys and girls (U6 and U8) and with older and younger players within an age group (U8 and U10).
Q: When are practices?
A: Practices for U6 and U8 are once a week (Monday thru Friday) at Roslyn Park. The night will be determined by the coach. Practice for U10 will be twice a week (Monday thru Friday) either at Marsden Field or Roslyn Park. The nights will be determined by the coach.
Q: When are games?
A: Currently, U6 and U8 games will be on Saturday mornings at Roslyn Park. U10 will play on Sundays at Marsden Field. When intercommunity play begins for U10, games will be on Sundays at Marsden Field and at Conway Field in Ardsley.
Q: How do I get to Conway field?
A: Exit the parking lot at Marsden field by making a right. At the traffic light, Maple Avenue, make a left. Go to the third stop sign, Lincoln Ave and make a right. Go to the sixth street, Avenue G, and make a right, this will dead end into the Conway Field parking lot.
Q: How can I help?
A: Support the club. Support your child. Support the program. Do not coach from the sidelines. The game belongs to the kids, leave it that way. Do not worry about wins or loses, rather, focus on their skills development.
Q: Tell me about the program, how are games structured?
A: All age divisions are skills development based. There are no standings or championships.
U6 Games are 3 v 3 on a small field (approximately 25 yds x 30 yds) with Pug nets. There are no positions or goalkeepers. No throw ins. After the ball has gone out of bounds all restarts are by a kick in or by dribbling in. Halves are 25 minutes each.
U8 Games are 4 v 4 on a small field (approximately 30 yds x 45 yds) with Pug nets. There are no positions or goalkeepers. No throw ins. After the ball has gone out of bounds all restarts are by a kick in or by dribbling in. Halves are 25 minutes each.
U10 Games are 7 v 7 (6 field players plus a goalkeeper). We play a 2-2-2 system (2 defender, 2 mid-fileders-2 forwards). Every player will play every position. After the ball has gone over the side line the restart will be with a throw-in. When the attacking player plays the ball over the goal line, the defending team will take a goal kick. When the defending player plays the ball over the goal line, the attacking team will take a corner kick. There are no penalty kicks. All free kicks resulting from a foul will be indirect (2 attacking players must strike before it can go into the goal) and will be moved from directly in front of the goal. Off-sides infraction will be called after the mid-way point of the season.
Q: What skills will my child learn?
A: Roslyn Soccer emphasizes the individual skills and techniques necessary to play the game. Skills are age appropriate and progressive and will be built upon with each subsequent age division.
U6 pull back (Whoops), step-over (Sponge Bob), Big-Toe Cut Back, Pinky-Toe Cut Back and Wahoo (dummy). Practices will reinforce dribbling technique and proper striking of the ball.
U8 U6 moves, plus: Cryuff (L), Zico (figure 8) and Stop-and-Go. An introduction to passing, most of the practices will be spent on dribbling and proper striking of the ball.
U10 U8 moves, plus: Beckenbauer, Stomp and Tornado. Players will also learning passing and receiving techniques and how to be strong on the ball.
Q: Will my child get a uniform?
A: Yes, U6 and U8 all players get a Roslyn Soccer jersey (T-shirt). U10 players get a complete kit socks, shorts, jersey.
Q: What about travel soccer?
A: If your child no longer qualifies for in-house soccer, he/she will move on to ACU, the travel arm of Roslyn Soccer. www.acunited.net
