Congratulations to 2025 Marsden Scholarship Recipients
Congratulations to Benjamin Brous III, Olivia Capps, and Jonathan Shaw, recipients of the 2025 Marsden Scholarship awarded by the Roslyn Boys & Girls Club. We are proud of all of you, and we wish you the best for a successful future.
Benjamin Brous III, son of Ben and Beth Brous, is a senior at Abington Senior High School who wants to follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue a career in pastoral ministry, and he plans to attend Cedarville University in Ohio. He played baseball at RBGC from 2012-2016, and soccer during the 2012 season, but his playing career was short-circuited when he injured his back, which ultimately led to a spinal fusion. Despite his limited playing career, Ben managed to distinguish himself as a volunteer and as an individual. He played trumpet in the marching band; was a member of both the Jazz Band and Symphonic Band; was a member of the National Honor Society; and was a leader in his church’s AWANA program. He also participated in the German Exchange Program and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was awarded the President’s Award for Educational Excellence and was named first chair trumpet in the Jazz Band. He was employed as a lifeguard at Willow Grove YMCA; went on mission trips to Kenya, Pittsburgh, Newark, and New York; and assisted at his church’s Vacation Bible School for three summers.
Olivia Capps, daughter of Brian and Jennifer Capps, is a senior at Abington Senior High School who intends to pursue a career in health sciences. She will attend St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Olivia played soccer at Roslyn Boys & Girls Club and AC United from 2012 through 2024. At ASHS, she was a member of the soccer, lacrosse, and swim teams. She was her class council vice president for three years and a member of the orchestra for four years. In addition, she worked as a lifeguard at North Hills Country Club and also worked at Hollister. She was a Girl Scout, and she volunteered for many Roychester community activities. She received many accolades, including: JV Soccer MVP, Most Improved Swimmer, The Girl Scout Silver Award, Honorable Mention All League Soccer Player, Senior Spirit Award in Swimming, All League Honorable Mention in Swimming, Most-Athletic Female Athlete at ASHS, Swim Record-Holder at both Abington and Crestmont, and she was selected to the district and state swim teams. She was Homecoming Queen at ASHS and was a Suburban One Featured Athlete.
Jonathan Shaw, son of Timothy and Lauren Shaw, is a senior at Abington Senior High School who plans to study Finance at Penn State (University Park) where he has been accepted into the Smeal College of Business. Graduating in the top ten percent of his class, he was a member of the National Honor Society and the French Club. He is the recipient of the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, the President’s Volunteer Service Award, the Abington Service Award, and the Chartwells Scholarship. As an athlete, he was involved in the Alternative Sports Club and played as a catcher on the ASHS varsity baseball team; he also played thirteen years of baseball (tee-ball through American Legion) exclusively with Roslyn Boys & Girls Club. In the community, he has volunteered at the Roslyn Carnival and the Jack Howarth Baseball Tournament; and he has worked both in guest relations at Chick-fil-A and as a counselor at Total Instructional Baseball Camp. At New Life Presbyterian Church (Dresher), Jonathan worked as a summer camp counselor and volunteered for several years at Respite Night, serving families impacted by disability.![]()
